Lawyer Overview
Attorney Miles has tried civil and criminal cases in the Pioneer Valley for more than 40 years. He has appeared before the First Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Court for the District of Massachusetts, the Supreme Judicial Court, the Massachusetts Appeals Court, the Superior Court, the Land Court, the District Court, and the Juvenile Court. He has represented clients before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and various Municipal agencies.

He has taught evidence, trial methods and advanced evidence at Western New England University School of Law; business law and constitutional law at Greenfield Community College; and criminal procedure at University of Massachusetts/Amherst Continuing Education.

He has published chapters in treatises on damages, civil trial practice, forensic evidence, and DNA evidence.

He has lectured throughout the United States about the gathering, preservation, testing, and use of forensic evidence in civil and criminal proceedings to audiences composed of high school, college and law school students; scientists; members of law enforcement organizations; attorneys and judges; and legal professionals from Eastern Europe. He has chaired and presented at programs for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education on DNA evidence.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the past Chair of its Jurisprudence Section.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation.

He was the First Assistant District Attorney for the Northwestern District of Massachusetts (Hampshire and Franklin Counties,) and served as a Special Assistant Attorney General.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Western Massachusetts Legal Services Corporation for fourteen years.

In 2022, Northeastern University's College of Professional Studies granted a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Accounting to Attorney Miles. The certificate marks Mr. Miles's successful completion of the year-long program.
